Dust Eating Rugs

This carpet is actually a living majical creature that eats the dust. In a world of high fantasy, they may be "natural creatures," little more majical than the rest of the ecology about them, while in worlds of lower mana, they are likely to be majical constructs, or at least their ancestors were. In a mana-rich setting, dust-eating rugs help keep many a parlour - and laboratory - clean.

A dust-eating rug slowly creeps about the room on the thousands of wee foot-mouths that are its hairs, eating any wee crumbs and dust. The more dirt it finds, the plusher and glossier it grows. Especially nutritious litter makes it glow with more vibrant colours. However, in some environments (such as alchemical laboratories), the Dust-Eating Rug may ingest the indigestible. This may result in its vomiting up great noxious clouds of dust - or becoming ill and possibly dieing.

Some are double-sided, both sides plush, with different patters in their luxurious pelts of foot-mouths, while others have one side plushly pelted and the other rough, for traction, perhaps with a set of larger, possibly toothed mouths for larger prey.

Dust-eating rugs are generally shy and stay still when anyone is in the room; they figure, it they don't move, they can't be seen.

"Guard Rugs" are a variation equipped with a fringe of talons. These can rake and slice like a whole row of lions' paws
