Kangadillo

Statistic are by species; Kangadillos are an entire class of creatures.

The kangadillos are 'roo-armadillo hybrids. While most are simple herbivores, some are flesh-eaters. Such carnivores kangadillos can chase after their prey at horrific speed, then launch themselves, curling up into living cannonballs of great accuracy. They may not kill upon impact, but generally knock their prey over, stunning it. The kangadillo then jumps on to the prey, grabbing hold with all four paws and simultaneously tearing with its jaws and pummeling with the bony club at the end of its strong and limber tail.

Kangadillo come in a range of species. As with most carnivorous liniages, the smaller are more likely to be pack (or "mob") hunters, while the larger are more likely to be solitary stalkers, but there are exceptions.

The smallest of kangadillo species are only as big as a softball, but, when leap-launched at close to a hundred miles an hour, their studded carapaces can cause considerable damage. Rhino-sized kangadillos can weigh as much as two tons.

A kangadillo mob generally consists of 2-24 females (x 1-6 for smaller and/ or herbivorous species) and one jack; the jack will be double or quadruple the size of the females. Young jacks without a mob form jack-packs, while older jacks, who are much larger but no longer have such youthful vigor, are generally found as "bachelors."

Kangadillos' efficient, high-speed locomotion means that a mob may easily patrol a far larger territory than, say, a pack of wolves of equivalent number and size. This lets kangadillos form mobs surprisingly large, in terms both of numbers and size, given the quality of their habitat.

Kangadillos are found in any terrain that can support them; swamp or marsh is generally too soft. Larger 'roos may have difficulty leaping through dense woodlands, but the smaller varieties are hindered no more than a deer would be. Arboreal varieties specialize in leaping from branch to branch; they may leap a dozen times their length from a rooted start, or twice that when in pursuit.
